Cancer the dreaded disease

It was a gruesome experience of Cancer for me, when my brother Ajit Khan was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer in early April. Stomach cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide with 930,000 cases diagnosed in 2002. It is a disease with a high death rate (700,000 per year) making it the second most common cause of cancer death worldwide after lung cancer.

Most of us remain ignorant of existence of such diseases. We take it for granted that it can never happen to us, until the day it knocks our door. He was admitted in Indo American Cancer Institute and Research Centre and then came the most painful treatment Chemo Therapy; my brother lost his hair with an early sign of weakness. A month passed and Chemo Therapy was repeated, this time my brother went too weak and was shifted to ICU, from then on he remained in ICU until his last breathe. He fought cancer bravely for 2 and half months and breathed his last on 29th June 2008 at around 11:20pm in the night.

Stomach Cancer is a silent killer and often asymptomatic or causes only nonspecific symptoms in its early stages. By the time symptoms occur, the cancer has generally metastasized (spread) to other parts of the body.

I request to all my blog viewers to pray for his Maghfirat, May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah, and forgive his sins - Ameen.
